Legend:

The modern name of the city - Lutsk - comes from the older name "Louchesk" or "Luchesk. No consensus about the origin of the word no, but scientists have repeatedly put forward hypotheses about the etymology of the name. Here are the most popular suggestions:

1. The name comes from the word "luk", i.e. "bend of the river";

2. Title - linked to the name of the leader of Eastern Slavic tribes Dulebov - Luke, who founded this city;

3. Title - Celtic origin, and also as Lyon and London is the name of God of Meadows (Lugov rus.);

4. The name comes from the self-tribe of the ray. Scientific Sreznevsky argues that the name derives from the word "luk" (meadow rus.)  - pasture near a river.
