About Zaporozhye
Zaporozhye (until 1930 Alexandrovsk) - a city in Ukraine, the administrative center of the Zaporizhia region, situated on the river Dnipr.o river.The one of the largest administrative, industrial and cultural centers of southern Ukraine.
History: The beginning of the history of the city Alexandrovsk (Zaporozhye) is connected with the construction at the end of XVIII century New Dnieper fortified line. In the first half of XIX century. Alexandrovsk is a typical provincial town, the industry was in its infancy. Impetus to the development Alexandrovsk was building the railroad through the town during the second half of XIX century. March 23, 1921 the town received its present name - Zaporizhzhia Province was also moved to the Zaporizhzhia. The growth of the old town and new (Sotsgoroda) led to their joining in the 1960's.
